Description
The «Self Portrait» dates back to 1912, Gounaropoyloy's year of graduation from the School of Fine Arts in Athens and is the epitome of all the basic features of the academic teaching: dark palette, artificial lighting workshop, realistic representation. There is more freedom in shaping the color fitted with quick nerve touches . The oriental disquise with the turban , refers directly to the famous Rembrandt's self portrait. One of the most favorite paintings of G. Katsigra because of the common origin of the painter and collector from Eastern Romylia, this work was always hanged up over his office.
