Orfanos Lambros

Lambros Orfanos was born in Athens in 1916. He studied art at A.S.F.A. In 1949 he was recruited as the Chief Supervisor of the Engraving Department of the Hellenic Foundation for Printing Banknotes and Bank Bonds (I.E.T.A.), by the Bank of Greece. From 1952 – 1955 he began his post-graduate studies by attending the Printmaking workshop at Ecole des Beaux-Arts, and at the same time he continued his studies in bookbinding, the engraving of postage stamps and letters on bank bonds at the College Technique Estienne (Arts et Industries du livre). He returned to Greece to continue his duties for the I.E.T.A and produced some of the most important Greek bank notes. In 1963 he signed an exclusive contract with the international banknote manufacturer, De La Rue-R. Giori Company. In 1960 he designed the logo for the newly established Agricultural Insurance Organisation. In 1977 he designed two postage stamps commissioned by the Hellenic Post (ELTA). He died in 1995.
