Description
This painting shows a shipwreck. All the foreground is empty, while in the middle level has been painted a boat in which castaways have fled. The use of diagonals of the boat and high wave, on which the boat oscillates, gives the impression of a tragedy. The depiction of the blurred horizon and the glowing sky enhances the dramatic atmosphere of the scene. The color tonnes are almost uniform, limited in the scale of blue-green and broken down into atmospheric molecules, particularly in the area of the foamy wave.
