Biography
"He was born in Sklavochori of Tinos in 1842. In 1850 his family moved to Athens and decided to study at the School of Arts in the age of eight, initially as an ordinary listener, and from 1854 to 1864 he studied properly. In 1865 he began with a scholarship for postgraduate studies in Munich. He returned to Greece where he lived and worked. In 1877, after his marriage, he returned to Munich and in 1888 was elected Professor at the Academy of Munich. In autumn of 1899, Gyzis didn't feel well. He returned to Greece believing that he would regain his health but he died on 4 January 1901."
