Description
In this work Sikeliotis deals one more time with the subject of the Epitaph Lamentation. This scene, as it happens in all the religious works of the artist, is transported to modern reality. The composition is organised in a compact pyramid like cluster, in the centre of which dominates the oversized figure of Virgin Mary, around whom are assembled the remainder smaller in scale figures Flowing curved outlines encompass tightly the leveled figures. The stressed arc that shapes the ridge of Virgin Mary constitutes one of the designing choices of the artist, so that it strengthens the expressiveness and dramatization of the episode.
