Description
The thematic area of the portrait worried Iakovides thought throughout the long artistic career with extraordinary always results. The painting of the Katsigra's Collection belongs to the first projects painted by the artist after his return to Greece. In the painting are depicted the wife and the daughter of Stephanos Rallis who was a rich corn chandler from Syros. The picture is in accordance with the rules of civil portrait of the 19th century: a formal, stylized posture, restrained expressiveness, monumental style. The contrast between the face of the serious mother and the face of the tender daughter is intensifyed by the color contrast of the white-black clothing.
