Description

The background of this portrait is neutral and total dark. Through this darkness the face of the artist's siter appears. Half of her face is litted up and has been attributed with single coloration. The other half of the face remains in the dark and is onlythe white part of the eye is distinguished , an element that creates intense opposition. The head is wrapped with a white veil, that surrounds and stresses her face, while at the same time it functions also as a a carrier of lighting. Elements as the darkness of the representation, intense shading, the melancholy of expression and the particular lighting create a sense of mystery, but also sadness.
