Description
The Portrait of Constantine M. Mela is one of the most important painting of the Municipal Gallery of Larissa. The depicted little boy is originated from a known Athenian family, which had played an important role in the arts events of the city. There is a differentiation from other known portraits made by Lytras. The small child is seated in a red armchair. The expression of the person exudes seriousness, which contrasts with his young age. In his hand holds a wooden toy and on the carpet of the floor there are a hat and an open book. The deep and warm red color of the wheelchair is a kind of framework, which stresses the form of the child. It is also worth mentioning the role of the light of the white collar of his clothes that illuminates his face. In this portrait Lytras combines elements from ethografikes performances, such as fallen objects with data from portraits, such as color austerity.
