Description
In years 1940-1945 Sikeliotis artistically produces works, that constitute documents from the period of Greece's occupation by the Germans.. This engraving portrays three beggars in the street The figures are pushed together to the right end of the picture and qre depicted one behind the other in diagonal development. They are closed in angular outlines and their sizes are developed gradually The form creating language of the picture is obviously expressionistic and reminds engravingsof the artists of "Bridge". Thus here as the intensity of expression is condensed in the hard vertical and sidelong carvings, in the emphatic gesture and in the dramatic distribution of the white and black points.
