Description
The artist was often painting monasteries of Crete in their landscape, and probably this project belongs to this category.To the right, on the scales of the extended and diagonally positioned ladder we can identify the microscopic figure of a monk, who has turned his backs to the viewer. The description is simple and the shape-language moves in the searches of the countryside painting. The outlines lose their intensity, the foliage of the trees are converted into uniform tone masses, while the spots of light on the ground at the left are pictured with antirealistic tones of pink and yellow.
